What a dreary weekend!  Plans for visiting Santa Pod for the drag racing were postponed until the weather improved on the Monday, in the meantime gardening still went on, in the rain at times,  and I managed to clear about 9 bags of clippings/weeds from the garden (once I had bought the new hedge trimmer!).  I still didn’t manage to move the conifer which is blocking light from the living room window, or plant the new rhubarb crown which will also need the light from the cleared conifer - jobs for another day then.

Pictures speak louder than words (so I’m told) - video probably even more so - so both below!

  …..how does your garden grow?

Well, some bits grow very well, over-enthusiastic climbers on the pergola, weeds, grass that constantly needs cutting and a pond that thinks its a lawn!  Some not so well, brocolli and cauliflower plants (from the open farm day), and lettuces - all of which have been attacked by something very hungry.  The strawberries are doing particularly well this year though, and the rhubarb always has a good crop (yum!!)  Even the courgette plants are looking good at the moment.

Yet to be planted are runner beans, and some leeks which will fill the gaps left by the eaten lettuces.

Had a very busy day in the garden last weekend - and about lunchtime someone made me a small cheese sandwich……

Green Fingers and Car Problems

A few weeks ago when the weather started showing signs of warming up I took a look out into the jungle that had suddenly sprung up where the back garden used to be and decided that the coming weekend would have to include some sort of gardening involving major pruning, weeding and such.  As with all great plans, fate (if you believe in such a thing) quickly threw a spanner into the works, in the form of a non-starting 2cv.

Once upon a time I was proud of the fact that the 2cv always started at first turn of the key, at worst the second, but gradually this easy starting changed to such an extent that you needed to have “the knack” to be able to start the thing, until one morning it just wasn’t having it any more.

Time to order new parts then.  Coil, plugs, plug leads or timing are the usual suspects so knowing that I had “infallible” electronic ignition and had already changed the plugs, I narrowed it down to leads or coil.  Because I can’t actually remember how old either are, and Just to be on the safe side, I ordered both and they arrived in time for the “gardening” weekend.   It would have taken all of about 30 mins to change them (I needed to fit new brackets for the coil too, or else it would have taken a maximum of 10 mins!), and in fact total working time was about that, but I got side-tracked when I noticed the number of weeds in the drive and started pulling them up in between working and fetching tools from the garage.

I can’t believe the amount of weeds that can grow in one drive!!

So the 2cv now has a nice new shiny coil (probably the cleanest part of the car!) and is back to starting first time - result!  As far as car issues go, I now just need to sort the gearbox problem with the Blackjack….but thats another story….

I did finally get some tidying done in the back garden too - about 5 bag fulls of weeds and prunings,  and it was finally looking a little more respectable.  All in all quite a productive weekend after all!

You think this still looks overgrown?  You should have seen it before I started!  The lawn still needs mowing, and yes, the green bit in front of the lawn should look like a pond - looks like I need to weed that too!

Hello World!

Well finally I get around to getting myself a dedicated blog site - this is where the stuff (particularly photos) that doesn’t make it onto Flickr or the KL Plus website will end up.  I was planning originally to call the blog “Planes Trains and Automobiles, or Cars Kites and Spreadsheets - The Sad World of Miss T” but that proved to be rather a long title, so this is the abridged version (Emma said I should take out the word “Sad”!!).  These, and Plus, are the main things that seem to make up my life at present, with a little gardening and some archery thrown in when time permits!

Some of it may prove to be of much interest to people (and I would be overjoyed if that is the case), on the whole it will probably be just my very random thoughts, ramblings and observations of the things, people and events that form my world.

I already have a few things to put on here, but there are a lot of things at the moment taking up my time, which is quite often the case so keep watching this space…….
