Eurovision Pudding Party - Douze points!!
No Comments »Eurovision - what a great excuse for a party!! And every good party needs….puddings! Well its more a combination of two separate ideas really, we have had a Eurovision party previously, and before that we had a pudding party, both held at a very unusual house built by some friends out at Necton which once again was the host venue. The basic idea was that everyone brought a pudding to share, and we spent the evening listening to songs, good, bad and some distinctly odd, shouting at the TV during the scoring!
We joined in the sweepstake, but between us drawing Poland, Israel and Lithuania we had a sneaking suspicion we wouldn’t win…….!!
As far as food goes, despite Sherrie promising “nibbles”, we have more of a feast awaiting us when we arrived, not leaving much room for puddings, but with a gap of a few hours in between we gave them our best efforts! As usual, and along the same lines as Sherrie, I had as usual got a bit carried away in the kitchen during the day and managed to take three puddings and some freshly baked breadsticks. I will post the recipes for the Chocolate Meringue Pie (think lemon meringue with a difference) and the white choc chip scones with vodka strawberries on here later, the chocolate apple pie wasn’t in my opinion quite as nice and was basically just a twist on a normal apple pie. The first two were something quite special though - I’d be hard pushed to say which was my favourite .
Of course the evening was also an excuse for disposing of a few alcoholic beverages, as most of us stayed overnight - unlike some of the others, for some reason I seem to have lost the desire to drink for the sake of it, sticking to one bottle of beer and a single vodka and coke - I must be losing my touch, and will certainly be out of practice come the KL Plus mid-summer party - that really doesn’t bode well…….

And the winner is….
No Comments »A fun take on archery, and a good afternoon spent shooting at the Gleed School in Spalding, all arranged by Steph, a lady with a very odd imagination (must be odd to come up with some of the ideas she did!)
We hadn’t shot outside at all this year, for various reasons. The club shooting only moved outdoors at the end of April and so far we haven’t made it to any evening shoots since. I was a little worried that we would be at a distinct disadvantage, but it turns out that Steph and already thought of that and the rules of the afternoon started with us all shooting with club bows. Was a little interesting for the left handed archers (John and myself) as all the bows provided were righthanded…
Steph had put in a lot of work making up targets, some with photos of committee members, some with giant cupcakes, and some full of smurfs (why smurfs???) - blue people with white hats as another friend of mine would happily tell you!! We were split into two teams and given various objectives - somehow our team managing to do miserably on all of these tasks, and losing by a long way. A non-scoring round involved shooting at balloons attached to the bosses and I was very pleased to actually get one with my second arrow - more fluke than skill I suspect!
A cake based picnic followed and the winning team were presented with plastic medals - to be treasured for ever of course. Our team received silver painted wooden spoons - I wonder if I should drill a hole in mine and hang it off my quiver? Maybe not!
The highlight of my day was when I was informed that I had actually managed to win a tropy for a series of shoots between November and March - not that I got the best score, in fact I think I scored the lowest, but somehow I had managed to get the most improvement from last year’s competition and it had been decided to judge on this basis. I’m not entirely convinced that someone had just taken pity on me as I’m not likely to win anything otherwise! Mind you, a trophy is a trophy, and to be most improved is also something to be proud of, so I won’t be complaining!
I got a couple of photos on my mobile phone (forgot to take the camera). Not sure quite how they have turned out as I haven’t downloaded them yet - I’ll post them later if they are any good.

No Comments »Lots been going on here, including exam revision, so posting hasn’t been quite what it could be! Weekend before last I planted some seed after being given some chilli and pepper plants. I’ve never been great at growing from seed, but I was very successfuly with my courgette plants bought from the market last year. Due to college, I don’t get to the market stall any more, so had to resort to buying seed - lets hope I don’t manage to kill them before they get as far as bearing fruit for me, I’m hoping for great things!

I don’t often time it right to see the ships head up the river on my trip into work, more likely I will catch then when they reach the swing bridge and get held up for 20mins or so while they go through! I’ve also not see the water this high for some time either, so it caught my eye.
